What is the Apparent Temperature Calculator?

Estimate a feels-like temperature that combines air temperature, humidity and wind. The calculator converts the inputs to Celsius and metres per second, derives vapour pressure from relative humidity, then applies the Bureau of Meteorology outdoor apparent-temperature equation.

This calculator is designed to make meteorological arithmetic inspectable. It identifies the measurements used, preserves the equation’s published unit convention, exposes intermediate values and describes the range in which the result is meaningful. The answer is calculated from the values entered on this page; it is not fetched from a weather station or forecast service.

Weather indices answer different questions. Heat index, humidex and apparent temperature are not interchangeable; wet-bulb temperature is not automatically WBGT; station pressure is not an altimeter setting; and an approximate cloud base is not an observed ceiling. Read the result label and limitations before comparing it with another source.

The page does not silently substitute live data, infer missing measurements or extend a published relationship beyond its stated range. How to understand the result

If an answer looks unexpected, verify Fahrenheit versus Celsius, mph versus km/h, hPa versus inHg, feet versus metres and the time interval used. Also check that dew point does not exceed air temperature and that measured depths or temperatures refer to the same observation period.

Worked example and practical interpretation

At 30°C, 60% humidity and 2 m/s wind, apparent temperature is approximately 32.8°C.

The worked example demonstrates the equation rather than predicting current conditions. Replace every value with observations appropriate to the same location, exposure and time. Keep the result together with its units because a bare number can be misleading across national reporting systems.
