This page is intended for transparent project estimation. It keeps measurements, conversions, allowances and purchase rounding visible so a homeowner, gardener or landscape professional can inspect every assumption instead of relying on an unexplained total.

A mathematically correct result can still differ from the amount used on site. Before ordering, confirm whether measurements describe the inside or outside of a bed, whether a quoted volume is loose or compacted, whether stock pieces can be joined, and whether the supplier uses U.S. customary or metric units.

How to use the Drip Irrigation Flow Calculator

Use the same project boundary for every field, preserve the requested units, and obtain label rates or stock dimensions from the exact product being considered.

Formula and calculation method

Zone flow (GPH) = emitter count × emitter rating; cycle gallons = zone flow × runtime ÷ 60

The calculator multiplies emitter count by rated gallons per hour, converts runtime to hours, and compares total zone flow with the entered available supply. Intermediate values retain additional precision, while purchase counts are rounded up only when full bags, rolls, pallets or stock pieces are required.

Geometry and rate calculations are simplified models. They do not automatically measure slopes, curves, soil condition, mature plant size, pressure loss, product variation, labor, delivery, tax or installation constraints unless an input explicitly represents that factor.

How to understand the result

The large gradient figure is the primary project estimate. Four colored cards show supporting quantities such as base volume, full packages, component shares, flow, runtime, overflow or cost. The visual scale is an orientation aid rather than a quality rating or purchasing instruction.

Compare calculated requirements with supplier pack sizes and the physical site. A small difference can become important across a large yard, while rounding every section separately can produce more material than rounding the combined project once.

If a result looks unexpectedly high or low, verify area, depth, percent entries and the unit printed beside each field. Inches entered as feet, percent entered as decimals, and supplier coverage entered in the wrong unit are common causes of major errors.

Worked example and practical interpretation

Forty 1 GPH emitters running 45 minutes deliver 30 gallons and require 40 GPH of source capacity.

The example demonstrates the displayed arithmetic and is not a universal project specification. Replace every example value with measurements from the actual site and specifications from the selected product, supplier, irrigation component or planting plan.

When cost is shown, it includes only the price field stated by the calculator. Delivery, equipment rental, labor, permits, disposal, taxes, regional pricing and minimum order charges remain outside the estimate unless you add them separately.

Accuracy, safety and project limitations

Rated output can differ with pressure, elevation, clogging, filtration, tubing length and non-pressure-compensating hardware. Confirm flow in the installed system.
