What is a race time predictor?

A race time predictor estimates how a verified performance may translate to another distance. It is different from the Pace Calculator, which assumes the same pace; this model adds a fatigue exponent so predicted pace changes as distance changes.

How does the race time predictor work?

The calculator converts both distances to kilometers, applies the Riegel power-law relationship, and converts the projected seconds into a finish time and target pace. After choosing a target, the Running Split Calculator can turn that time into checkpoint targets.

What formula does the race time predictor use?

The formula is T₂ = T₁ × (D₂ ÷ D₁)^1.06 by default. T₁ and D₁ are the known performance, while T₂ and D₂ are the prediction. The exponent can be adjusted cautiously. For unit-only comparisons, use the Length Converter.

How do you use this race predictor?

Enter a recent all-out race on a reasonably comparable course, then enter the new distance. Predictions are usually more useful when distances are not extremely far apart. You can compare aerobic field-test context with the VO₂ Max Calculator.

What does the predicted race time mean?

The result is a mathematical estimate for similar fitness and conditions. The displayed mile and kilometer paces are the averages required to reach the predicted time, not instructions to hold a perfectly constant effort.

What are the limitations of race prediction?

Training specificity, terrain, weather, elevation, fueling, injury, and experience can create large differences. The original relationship describes population performance patterns and cannot know an individual athlete’s endurance profile.

Who should use a race time predictor?
